Aisha Alexander was born in Medellin, Colombia, there she studied Law and political sciences at the University of Medellin. In 1998 she emigrated to United States due to the political situation, her mother, also a lawyer worked for the State of Attorney at the time. Since she was 4 years old she had the passion to become a pilot and she had the support of her mother and grandmother but they advised her to first study another career since they had no background in Aviation.
In 2001 she completed the CPL license from American Flyers. She worked towards the ATP by volunteering hours . Once she reached 1500 hrs she had her first formal job flying KingAirs and Learjet25. Her career slowly started to get more stable; however, it wasn’t easy because female pilots were not very popular in USA, as a meter of fact, she was the first Hispanic female pilot in Corporate Aviation in USA. Facing many battles and seeing many doors closing on her, she moved on and created her own network, she was able to find contract jobs in South America, Canada, India, South east Asia where she met her dearest friend Ivana Alvares today Governor of the 99s African session, and for a first time she saw so many females pilots in Asia and India specially. After the crisis of 2008, she moved to the airline Industry in 2009 when she joined a cargo airline flying MD-11s., later she joined Ethiopian airlines and Etihad Airways where she stayed for over five years until the company was forced to start reducing and laying off crew members. She had the advantaged that she completed a masters in Aviation Safety from the Emirates Aviation University and it allowed her to join Coca Cola flight Department as a Safety Manager and later to be appointed by ICAO as the Safety Regional officer for the NACC region, unfortunately the pandemic was already started and taking a management role wasn’t the best venue at the time so she decided in the middle of the pandemic to regretfully postpone the ICAO opportunity for a later stage of her life and join a cargo operator in Miami to stay current in the airline industry, this decision even financially was hard but she had to do it in the name of stability for the future of her career and especially for her family’s stability , but that decision led her to be today in a very stable cargo airline one of the largest feeders of the DHL network and gratefully she received other offers from other airlines at the same time.
Her passion is safety, and even before Aviation safety was a career alone she studied criminal justice not for the legal side of it but for the human factors, as she was hoping one day to do something in Aviation related to human factors and today there is Aviation safety and Human factor as a major.
The real her; she is a mother this is the most remarkable part of her life. She has a wonderful son that became her role model, she looks up to his wisdom to make choices, and his adaptability to change even at his young age, and she had followed her mother’s foot steps because she taught her all what she knows today, she taught me not to take No as an answer, she raised me as a single parent and she did a wonderful job, working, studying her law career while raising me. So the family curves the person she is today.
She has a very strong faith in God and She knows she could never have wings and permission to reach the sky on birds made of iron if it wasn’t because he said yes to her dreams.
she has been called the smile of the sky for one reason, because when situations in her life get harder she faces everything with faith, resilience and a big smile.
