In Africa, it is common to find airfields converted to children’s playing grounds due to the open grounds or find cattle grazing. Football is a very popular sport found on African airfields. As some Airfields are not used often and it can be months before a visiting aeroplane is sighted. While living near an Airfield can be fun watching aeroplanes take off and land. It can also inspire children in your community to be future pilots or join the aviation sector. There are safety risks that the community need to be aware of to keep everyone safe. The African Section Ninety Nines has started a campaign to educate communities about the dangers of living near airfields.
