The Jacaranda School for Orphans participated in the ME Programme (Mindfulness & Emotional Approaches) to support the emotional wellbeing of children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. Many of these children experienced profound trauma at a very young age, witnessing the illness and loss of their parents and, in some cases, having to care for themselves long before they were ready.
These early life experiences made emotional regulation, concentration, and self-confidence extremely challenging. Through the ME Programme, students were introduced to age-appropriate tools to help them process emotions, manage stress, and strengthen resilience. The programme offered a supportive environment where children could develop emotional awareness, confidence, and healthier coping strategies to navigate daily challenges and future life experiences.
